Do you have a Business Plan?

WHAT?!! NO TIME TO PLAN?

Too many business owners make the mistake of not creating a business plan. Unless abank or an investor wants to look at a business plan, there isn’t likely to be one written. The busier you are as a business owner the more you need a written plan. If you’re onewho is always putting out fires you should build a fire sprinkler system. The whole forest could be lost for too much attention given to the individual trees.

Always changing, a business plan is a working plan. It is the road map the organization uses to direct the direction it will travel. It plans the work the members of the organization will execute in looking ahead, allocating resources, focusing on key points and preparing for problems and opportunities.

Final Details: It Does Make a Difference

By Kevin Farrell

You have completed the toughest part of the detail. You have cleaned the wheels to perfection, got the filthy interior spotless, buffed the paint to a mirror finish, and applied your best wax. Now, its time to trim out the vehicle and let it be on its way. Not so fast! You do not want to get sloppy here. Trimming the car out, and taking care of “final details” is very important for a professional looking job. You need to be sure nothing gets overlooked. I have seen many cars that looked very good, but not perfect, and it’s usually because the final details were rushed or not performed correctly.

WHY AND WHAT

New full-serve hand wash in CA

MILPITAS, CA — A man and his father-in-law have turned their longtime love of cars into a business venture, according to The Milpitas Post. The April 18 story said Shun Tillman and father-in-law Charlie Wong opened Bay Area Auto Detailing, the area’s first full-serve hand wash and detail center. Tillman approached Wong about opening the business in 2007. The two went forth with their business plan and the Bay Area Auto Detailing opened in April.

New detail business gets final approval

LEBANON, OH — The Hamilton Township board of trustees has approved stage three final site plans for a new car care business, according to The Western Star.

The April 18 story said Autoshine will be leasing approximately 700 square feet of garage area space from Landen Motors to do the detailing work. There will also be a small office area in the garage.

The article said no new structures or parking areas will be built as part of this project.

Upgrade: The Season is Upon Us

Auto Laundry News

Automotive detailing operations all around the country are gearing up for the new detailing season. Stand-alone detail shops as well as detail centers within car washes start to see business pick up this time of year. Yet many operations will simply have another blasé year of so-so profits.

The stand-alone operator who trudges along, year-in, year-out, will sometimes wonder, “is this all there is?” Meanwhile, the car wash owner who doesn’t pay much attention to that shack in the back with some guys doing “detailing” might consider, “what do I keep that thing open for, anyway?” At car washes, the detail shop can sometimes be an afterthought. It may not be considered a real moneymaker.

Perhaps, now that spring is here, with its fresh batch of potential repeat and new customers, it is a great time to think about taking your detail business to the next level. The truth is, if a detail operation is set up and managed correctly, it can generate a hefty profit.

Couple opens car spa to join beauty salon business

IOWA CITY, IA — Doug and Laura Warner are taking full-service to the next level with their new carwash, the Twin Image Spa Salon, which joins the couple’s other business venture, an upscale beauty salon, according to The Press-Citizen.

The April 22 story said the pair bought an old car rental facility nearby an upscale beauty salon and converted it into TI Auto Spa. When clients come in for lengthy salon services, they can pamper their cars at the same time. They simply request what they want for their car at the same time they make their other appointments.
